The intense battle between Madara and the five Kage continues as Ōnoki attacks Madara with a gigantic rock golem. However, Madara counters with his Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees technique, shattering the golem into pieces. Tsunade remembers the technique being her grandfather's and as the technique released its pollen, she instructs the Kage not to inhale. Gaara suspends the Kage and Ōnoki levitates A. Kabuto
muses on how people thought no other shinobi is as powerful as
Hashirama Senju, just like how people consider the powers of the Sage of the Six Paths a myth. Elsewhere, the Hokage Guard Platoon along with Dodai and Sagan continue to pursue Mū. While the Kage are distracted, Madara unleashes his Susanoo, causing them to fall through the trees. Madara proceeds to set the forest ablaze
and not long after, the five Kage became unconscious. Ōnoki,
continuously losing his consciousness, remembers of his talk with the First Tsuchikage about the strong will of the Iwa shinobi. Refusing to give up, Ōnoki destroys the forest created by Madara with his Dust Release and as a result, the Kage regained their consciousness. As Madara's body is reforming
from the Tsuchikage's attack, to the Kage's horror, the face formed
from the DNA of Hashirama Senju appeared on Madara's chest. Meanwhile, Itachi continues his search for Kabuto, as Sasuke Uchiha
detects the latter. Sasuke follows him but his brother refused to talk
to him. With no choice, Sasuke attempts to catch Itachi with his
Susanoo, only for Itachi to counter with his own. The two begin to have a
conversation. Meanwhile at the battlefield, Madara decides to take out
Tsunade first after realising she was a Senju
and also deemed her a weak woman, pathetic compared to the likes of her
grandfather. Tsunade stated that she inherited something more than
power from her grandfather — the Will of Fire — something that Madara should not take so lightly.

With renewed determination and a chakra boost from Yin-Kurama, Naruto heads back into battle alongside Sasuke — who, not to be outdone, has Jūgo use the Sage Transformation on his Susanoo to imbue it with natural energy, creating the Cursed Seal of Heaven markings on Sasuke's Susanoo. Ready for action, the two young men plunge back into battle against Obito, who took note of how time and time again Naruto would pick himself up from the rut of despair. With this, Orochimaru reflects on how Sasuke seemingly had the potential to surpass even Madara Uchiha himself, while Tobirama notes that Naruto was in a lot of ways like his brother Hashirama: faults and all. With the shinobi still somewhat doubting themselves and contemplating waiting for directives from the current Kage, Hashirama shares with them all his memories of the first summit of the five Kage. How the meeting unfolded is revealed to all; what rings home for them all, is Hashirama's wish for all shinobi to be united. With this, Hashirama rallies the troops to amass their worries, their resolve, their sorrows and strength in order to fight. Ultimately, Hashirama's wish for the future is answered by the appearance of the five current Kage to the battlefield, all standing as a united front.

Having escaped from the Mountains' Graveyard, Sasuke wanders through a small town to discover that it is deserted, leading him to be confused. Meanwhile in Konohagakure, Konohamaru and his team-mates patrol through the village in order to watch out for the enemy when they heard an angry voice of a prisoner from the Konohagakure Intelligence Division. It is revealed to be Karin, who is feigning her mental instability to lessen the guards' attention and begins to plot her escape. At the same time, Jūgo and Suigetsu continue their search for Sasuke, arriving at one of Orochimaru's hideouts. The two walk in as Jūgo asks Suigetsu of his intention of joining Team Taka while suddenly Jūgo goes on a rampage and attacks Suigetsu. Suigetsu simply reforms and drowns Jūgo in order to subdue him. After this, he discovers a secret room revealed by Jūgo's rampage and finds a scroll containing important information. Sasuke is confronted by a group of White Zetsu Army clones. He actives his Susanoo and incinerates them. With the clones defeated, he interrogates one of them with a Sharingan genjutsu, through which the clone reveals information about the war. When Shikamaru is found to be one of the victims of the Shinju's attack, Sakura tries to have Katsuyu heal him remotely, but Katsuyu tells her its clones also died due to having their chakra absorbed leading the medical-nin to rush to her comrade's side instead. The Allied Shinobi Forces members spiral into despair, and taking advantage of the all-time-low morale, Obito declares that he would not kill those who stop resisting, but Hashirama's wood clone reminds them not to give up because the fate Obito wanted for them was no less worse than death. Hiruzen sentiments causes Orochimaru — who had just arrived with Suigetsu and Karin in tow — to note that pessimism was very out of character for his sensei. As Madara and Hashirama continued to fight, the Uchiha reveals that even without the full chakra of the Eight and Nine-Tails, the Shinju should bloom in approximately fifteen minutes, during which Madara planned to take Obito's place using Hashirama's senjutsu abilities. As the info is relayed to him, Hashirama's wood clone called out for a Yamanaka, and while startled Ino responds and on the command of the First, patches him through to the Alliance. Connected, the clone passed on the recent revelation, and also tries boost the shinobi's morale telling them decisively to not give up. As the Shiju moves again to attack, a large chunk of its root is cut off by a Susanoo-clad Sasuke who asks Naruto if he had already reached the limit of his capacity. Having manifested the Ten-Tails, whose stomach begins to open up, Obito mulls over his next step before removing the barrier as the beast transforms into an enormous tree. The tree stretches its roots and grabs hold of the shinobi on the battlefield, absorbing their chakra cloaks and their own chakra, leaving them emaciated, and causing wide-spread panic at the predicament. As Gyūki confirmed that this was the last and true form of the beast: the "God Tree", Madara and Hashirama continue their battle where the Uchiha reveals the history of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, the God Tree and the forbidden fruit that it bore once in a millennium, and how chakra became a weapon for man to use as a result of Kaguya consuming the fruit and giving birth to a son who would become known as the Sage of the Six Paths as written on the Naka Shrine tablet. He also noted that once the flower bloomed, the eye within it would be reflected onto the moon, casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and that the one who would complete the plan was he himself. Meanwhile, as Naruto tries to escape the clutches of the tree to very little avail, Tobirama slices through the branches, but they start to regenerate too quickly for himself, or a chakra depleted Minato to rescue him. With Naruto's situation getting dire as both his Tailed Beast Mode mantle and Sage Mode markings disappear, Hiruzen arrives in the nick of time and after apologising for his late arrival, destroys the branches with his adamantine staff and retreats with Naruto, allowing Tobirama to teleport them all to where Sasuke and Jūgo were surveying the occurrence. Slightly recovering, Naruto looks around in anguish at his fallen comrades, while Obito tells them all to simply give in, and that their suffering would end soon as the flower atop the tree begins to slowly open.

Two-Man Team
Naruto succeeds in removing and destroying Son's chakra receiver, but is upset on learning that Son still isn't free. Son leaves him a gift before being resealed into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. Intent on going full-out, Tobi has all the other jinchūriki fully transform into their tailed beasts. Kurama offers to lend Naruto more of its power, and is annoyed that Naruto thanks it for the earlier help against Madara. Naruto and Kurama meld their chakra, and Naruto notifies B and Gyūki that they still have a lot of power left to use. Gyūki wonders if Naruto and Kurama are cooperating. Naruto acknowledges Kurama as a comrade from Konohagakure, opening the gates restricting it. Newly empowered, Naruto deflects five Tailed Beast Balls fired against Guy and Kakashi, changes into a full tailed beast form, and begins attacking the tailed beasts, having created a clone to locate their chakra receivers. The five tailed beasts make a collaborative Tailed Beast Ball, which Naruto matches with one of his own, sending the attacks into the sky. He sends clones through Kurama's chakra arms to remove the chakra receivers. Upon touching them, Naruto finds himself in a mental plane, along with Kurama, the other tailed beasts, and their jinchūriki. They talk, all of them introducing themselves to Naruto, and telling him about their earlier talk with Rōshi and Son. The tailed beasts each gift Naruto with a bit of their chakra, and Kurama recalls their last moments with the Sage of the Six Paths long ago. As Naruto removes the chakra receivers, Kurama asks the others if they agree that Naruto is the one the Sage spoke of, to which they agree. Naruto's tailed beast transformation ends, and Tobi reseals the other tailed beasts into the statue again, noting that nothing about Naruto's predicament has changed. Naruto denies this, explaining he learned many difficult names.
